The much-anticipated First Assistant Commissioner Cup Inter-School Football Tournament concluded yesterday at Katchal Island, drawing the entire community together in a celebration of sports and camaraderie. Organized under the Nancowrie Sub-Division, the tournament featured six talented teams of under-17 boys from local schools, competing fiercely for first ever championship title.
The tournament kicked off on January 10, 2025, with enthusiastic participation from the schools viz. Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Goal Tekry (Kamorta); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Champin (Nancowry); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga (Katchal); Govt. Senior Secondary School, Bangali (Teressa); Govt. Model Secondary School, Kamorta and Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk (Chowra). The event was inaugurated by the Assistant Commissioner, Nancowry, Shri Aditya Sangotra in the presence of Shri Mohammed Yunus M, Block Development Officer, Shri Om Prakash, Assistant Education Officer, other officials and general public.
In the final match, held ysterday, the home team from Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga emerged victorious, clinching the coveted trophy with a commanding performance against Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk.
The inaugural and concluding of the tournament witnessed colourful cultural and traditional performances by the students which captivated the minds and hearts of the crowd. The success of the First Assistant Commissioner Inter-School Football Tournament not only highlighted the athletic prowess of the island’s youth but also reaffirmed the importance of such initiatives in fostering unity, discipline, and healthy competition.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Shri. Aditya Sangotra, Assistant Commissioner, Nancowrie Sub-Division, who presented the coveted trophy to the triumphant team from Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kapanga and the runner-up trophy of Govt. Secondary School, Kuitasuk. In his address, Shri. Sangotra commended all the players for their remarkable sportsmanship and praised the event for fostering unity and promoting the spirit of healthy competition among the youth. Additionally, the best player of the tournament, fastest goal of the tournament, Best Striker, Best Defender and Best Goalkeeper were also felicitated with cash rewards.
