Port Blair, 18 September 2024:
A customized five-day training programme has commenced for the Engineers of APWD by CSIR- CRRI in the Training Hall of CE’s Office Complex. The training was inaugurated by Dr. Manoranjan Parida, Director, CRRI in the presence of Er. T.K. Prijith Rekh, Chief Engineer, APWD. While inaugurating the training, the Director, CRRI informed that the training is tailor made to suit the need of the Engineers of APWD. The training will also cover use of locally available materials, quality check of road construction materials, design of flexible pavement and structural evaluation of flexible pavement.
Keeping in mind the weather condition of A&N Islands and the willingness of the Administration to introduce white topping/ rigid pavement, it was also decided to include design of cement concrete pavements, design of white toppings, project planning & DPR preparation. The training will also cover utilization of different industrial wastes/ marginal materials including Municipal Solid Waste for sustainable road construction with case studies. The ground improvement techniques, soil stabilization and geo-synthetic material in road construction is also included in the training programme.
While welcoming the chief guest, trainers and other participants, the Chief Engineer, APWD requested all the participants to make maximum use of the training and to implement at site for improvement of the quality of the road construction. He further informed that the initiation of training was as per the direction of the Chief Secretary. Accordingly, the A&N Administration has approved the proposal of APWD to impart the training through CRRI. The newly appointed Engineers of APWD were asked to take maximum benefit of the programme. The training is also being imparted to Engineers, especially in the Southern Group as well as North & Middle through video conferencing.
