Sri Vijaya Puram, 20 Sep:
Paschimsagar Unit of All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) organised a massive procession
at Pashcimsagar Gram Panchayat area in North Andaman on 18 th September, 2024,
demanding settlement of the demand of the villagers to allot land to all the landless
villagers. The procession which began from Talbaghan proceeded to Paschimsagar and
concluded in front of the Gram Panchayat office.
Addressing the participants in the mass procession, Dr Gouranga Majhi,
President, A & N State Committee of All India Kisan Sabha criticized the BJP government
at the centre for not considering the demands of the villagers of North Andaman on land
issues. He said that implementation of the Supreme Court judgement of 2022 should be
preceded by a comprehensive package for the family members who were living in the
Forest land prior to 1978 and post 1978. Speaking on the occasion, SR Mridha, Secretary,
AIKS, A & N State Committee said that during the last 50- 55 years, members of the
families which occupied the Forest land and constructed shelters are increased and
displacing such expanded family members and dispossessing the land held by them are
unjustified and demanded that the expanded families should be allotted land at the same
place where they lived during the last five decades and more. Nikunjo Biswas, Vice
President, AIKS State Committee said that the Kisan Sanch will continue to resort to
agitations in North and Middle Andaman District demanding justified settlement of land
issues of farmers. Addressing the programme, Sunil Bepari, President, CITU Diglipur Zonal
Committee blamed the successive governments at the centre for not settling the land
issues in the entire North Andaman. Dilip Karmakar, Joint Secretary, AIKS, Bhupathi Ray,
President and Suresh Chakidar, Secretary of Paschimsagar Unit and Banomali Sarkar led
the mass procession. Unmindful of the heavy rain in the area, several hundreds of farmers
from Paschimsagar and Talbaghan areas, including a large number of women, participated
in the procession.
