Akasha Airlines Flight Returns to Chennai Due to Bad Weather in Andaman

Reporte – JOHN WILBERT , Port Blair,    Andaman Nicobar , May 22, 2024.

Akasha Airlines passenger flight from Chennai to Andaman was forced to return to Chennai today due to adverse weather conditions in the Andaman region. The flight, carrying 142 passengers, departed from Chennai Domestic Airport this morning schedule to reach by 10:00AM but was unable to land at its destination.

As the aircraft approached Andaman airspace in the afternoon, it encountered severe weather, including strong gales. Despite circling in the sky for an extended period, the conditions did not improve sufficiently to ensure a safe landing. Consequently, the pilot decided to contact the Chennai airport control room for further instructions. Based on the guidance received, the flight returned to Chennai and landed safely in the afternoon.

Upon arrival, passengers were informed that the flight had been canceled for the day due to the persistent bad weather in Andaman. Airport officials communicated that the flight would depart from Chennai to Andaman the following day, on May 23, weather permitting.

This decision led to frustration among passengers, especially as other airlines managed to land in Andaman under similar weather conditions. Some passengers questioned why Akasha Airlines opted to return while others succeeded in landing. In response, airline officials emphasized that the primary concern was passenger safety and that the decision was made to avoid any potential risk.

Akasha Airlines assured passengers that they could reschedule their flights or receive refunds in accordance with the airline’s policies. Despite the inconvenience, the majority of passengers chose to adjust their travel plans and left the Chennai airport.

The situation highlighted the challenges airlines face in balancing safety with passenger satisfaction during unpredictable weather conditions. Akasha Airlines reiterated its commitment to passenger safety, promising to keep travelers updated on any further developments.

For now, passengers are advised to stay informed about the weather updates and flight schedules to plan their travel accordingly.
