Andaman Nicobar  : Saraniya Periaswamy: From Port Blair to Leading Space Innovation at Agnikul Cosmos

Reporte – JOHN WILBERT ,   Port Blair,   Andaman Nicobar , July 4, 2024:

Saraniya Periaswamy, a trailblazing engineer hailing from Port Blair, has emerged as a pivotal figure in the aerospace sector at Agnikul Cosmos. Her journey from dreaming about ocean studies to spearheading the development of the 3-D printed launch vehicle, Agnibaan SOrTeD, showcases her resilience and expertise in overcoming challenges.

Agnibaan SOrTeD, designed under Saraniya’s leadership, recently achieved a significant milestone with its successful technology demonstrator launch on May 30. This accomplishment followed a rigorous two-month period marked by meticulous planning and perseverance.

Reflecting on the journey, Saraniya acknowledged the pressures associated with rocket launches, citing the postponed initial launch scheduled for March 22 due to technical rehearsals.

“I started my educational journey in Port Blair and pursued civil engineering at Dr B R Ambedkar Institute of Technology, followed by a master’s in ocean technology from IIT-Madras,” shared Saraniya, highlighting her academic foundation.

At Agnikul Cosmos, nurtured within the IIT-Madras campus under the guidance of Satyanarayan Chakravarthy, Saraniya’s role evolved from systems engineering to leading the integration of launch systems.

“I began by studying rocket systems comprehensively, essential for understanding the intricate components of space vehicles,” she explained.

Agnikul Cosmos, known for innovations like the mobile launchpad ‘Dhanush,’ emphasizes versatility and safety in satellite deployment using readily available resources like aviation-grade fuel and industrial oxygen.

Looking ahead, Saraniya and her team are focusing on developing an orbital rocket capable of placing satellites in low earth orbit, further advancing India’s space capabilities.

“I initially hesitated due to my non-traditional background, but today I find immense satisfaction in contributing to rocketry. Every engineering discipline plays a crucial role in this field,” Saraniya remarked, encouraging aspiring engineers to pursue their space ambitions with determination.

Saraniya Periaswamy’s success story underscores the integration of diverse disciplines in space innovation, inspiring the next generation of engineers worldwide.
