The MICU is a heart of any hospital where critically ill patients requiring intensive care are treated. GBPH has 11 bedded MICU which was last renovated in 2004. ANIIMS has now renovated and refurbished the MICU and equipped it with State of Art life saving machines and equipment. All the beds in MICU are motorized and operated by remote control. The MICU has high end machines to monitor the heart activity attached to each bed and other portable machines like blood gas analyzer, X-ray and ECG to enable bedside investigations. All the beds of MICU are supported with centralized oxygen pipeline, ventilators and bi pap machine for oxygen support. The initiative has been supported financially by HDFC bank under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in collaboration with NGO, Doctors For You (DFY) who have extended their technical support for logistics and other arrangements for providing the machines and equipment to the hospital.
Only extremely sick patients who need intensive care and management are treated in MICU; sterility, hygiene and infection control procedures of MICU are critical to define the success rate of any ICU, as to how many patients will recover from the episode of critical illness. Thus minimum number of visitors and attendants of the patients in the hospital including MICU is extremely essential to maintain high standards of care, strict infection control and better chances of patient survival.
As of now, only one attendant per patient is allowed in all the areas of hospital and only for extremely sick patients in ICU areas. Soon after the MICU of GBPH is able to maintain the adequate patient nurse ratio, the access of the MICU to attendants will be controlled with restricted visiting hours.
