Middle Andaman, 20 Sep :
The Pradhan of Gram Panchayat Bakultala has issued a stern warning to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), demanding the immediate completion of repairs and reconstruction of the severely damaged NH-4. The residents of the area have decided to stage a protest if the NHIDCL fails to address the road’s deteriorating condition promptly.
The key locations of NH-4, where large potholes and poor road conditions are causing significant challenges, include:
1. 4 KM Turning to Nandi Dera via Bakultala Junction
2. Culvert near the 4 KM mark
3. APWD Culvert (Camp Area), Bakultala
4. Sabari Junction to Rangat, near Government Sr. Secondary School
These areas are part of a critical route connecting Bakultala to Rangat Bridge, and they are now in a deplorable state, making travel difficult and unsafe for the local population. The Gram Panchayat Bakultala, alongside the public, auto drivers, jeep drivers, and students, has been facing these challenges for over five years.
Despite repeated requests from the Panchayat to NHIDCL for immediate road repairs, the authority has yet to take meaningful action. According to the Panchayat, excuses such as adverse climatic conditions and other obstacles have been used to delay the work.
The Gram Panchayat, along with the general public, has now reached a breaking point, and protests are being planned. If immediate repairs are not carried out to make the road motorable, the community, including school students and local drivers, will be forced to demonstrate against the NHIDCL’s current working style.
The Pradhan of Bakultala Gram Panchayat Mr. Narayan Mondal has reiterated that the condition of NH-4 has become a serious concern now and action must be taken without further delay for the safety and convenience of the public.
