In the spirit of adventure, camaraderie, patriotism, and unity, the Saddle Peak
expedition—a biking and trekking journey from Port Blair to Diglipur—was flagged off by
Air Marshal Saju Balakrishan, AVSM, VM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar
Command (CINCAN), at Brichgunj Military Station on August 10, 2024.
This expedition covers over 700 km and involves 29 bikers from the Andaman and
Nicobar Command, led by Capt. Hrithik Dwivedi of the First Battalion, The First Gorkha Rifles,
over eight days. With themes of Har Ghar Tiranga, youth awareness, and Ek Ped Maa ke
Naam, the expedition's pinnacle will occur on August 15, 2024, when the tricolor will be
hoisted at Saddle Peak—the highest peak in the archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar
Islands—after a challenging trek. This maiden expedition symbolizes commitment to instilling
patriotism in the youth of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and encourages them to serve the
nation with zeal and enthusiasm. It combines adventure with patriotism and environmental
care through
“Ek Ped Maa ke Naam.”
Air Marshal Saju Balakrishan, AVSM, VM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar
Command, addressed the gathering, stating that the expedition is not just about the destination
but the journey itself. Its about the connections the bikers will make, the stories they will share,
and the inspiration they will spread. He acknowledged and appreciated the Army Components
efforts in planning and organizing this maiden expedition. To the riders, he said, Ride with
pride and purpose, and let the tricolor you carry be a beacon of hope and unity wherever you
go. The gathering was reminded of the significance of Independence Day and the
responsibility to continue building a nation that our forefathers would be proud of.
