CELEBRATION OF THE 78TH INDEPENDENCE DAY AT ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR ISLANDS

The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotism and grandeur across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. To mark the occasion, a ceremonial parade was conducted at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair, embodying the spirit of freedom and unity. The solemn proceedings commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony at the National Memorial, located within the revered Cellular Jail, by the Hon’ble Lt Governor, Admiral DK Joshi PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd).

The Hon’ble Lt Governor then hoisted the National Flag and received salute at the Independence Day Parade, which showcased striking coordination and unity, organized by HQ Andaman and Nicobar Command. The parade featured contingents representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and A&N Police, standing shoulder to shoulder in a show of strength and allegiance. Each contingent, consisting of one Officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), and fifteen Other Ranks, symbolized the harmony that defines our diverse Armed Forces. The parade was commanded by Wg Cdr Nitin Sharma, exemplifying leadership and discipline at its finest.

The parade witnessed a fly-past by a Coast Guard helicopter, along with the showering of petals at the venue. The maritime landscape was equally awe-inspiring, as the ships of the Indian Navy, Coast Guard, DSS, and Marine Police Boats anchored off Flag Point were adorned in vibrant hues, “Dressed Overall” with colorful flags, including the tricolor. This stunning visual spectacle painted a vivid picture of India’s journey towards progress and prosperity. Adding a rhythmic note to the event, the synchronized performance of the joint band from the Army and Navy, alongside the marching contingents, resonated through the hearts of the attendees, evoking emotions of patriotism.

The esteemed gathering included the presence of Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN), Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, AVSM, VM, the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, and DGP Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastava, alongside senior officers from the Armed Forces, Coast Guard,
A&N Police and Civil Administration.
