PM Vishwakarma Scheme: Empowering Traditional Artisans and Craftspersons in A&N Islands

The Directorate of Industries, A & N Administration is implementing the PM Vishwakarma Scheme as the Nodal Department of A&N Administration to support traditional artisans and craftsperson. PM Viswakarma Scheme was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 17th  September, 2023 to provide end to end support to artisans and craftspersons, who work with their hands & tools. The Scheme is conjointly implemented by Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurs and Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance.

The scheme envisages to provide support to artisans and craftsperson of rural and urban areas across India. Eighteen traditional crafts will be covered under PM Vishwakarma. These include (i) Carpenter; (ii) Boat Maker;(iii) Armourer; (iv) Blacksmith; (v) Hammer and Tool Kit Maker ;(vi) Locksmith ;( vii) Goldsmith; (viii) Potter; (ix) Sculptor, Stone breaker; (x) Cobbler (Shoe smith /Footwear artisans; (xi) Mason (Rajmistri); (xii) Basket/Mat/Broom Maker/Coir weaver; (xiii) Doll & Toy Maker (Traditional); (xiv) Barber; (xv) Garland Maker; (xvi) Washerman; (xvii) Tailor; and (xviii) Fishing Net Maker.

Under the scheme, the beneficiary will be registered as PM Vishwakarma subject to the three level verification/recommendation viz. Step-1 Verification by Banks; Step-2- 1st state Verification at Gram Panchayat or ULB and Step-3- 2nd Stage Vetting and recommendation by District Implementation Committee and Approval by the Screening Committee at Central Level.

All the aspiring artisans wishing to avail the benefits of the scheme have been encouraged to approach the Directorate of Industries, A&N  Administration or its Extension Offices at Bakultala, Diglipur and Hut Bay on any working day between 9 am & 5 pm and also login to (https://pmvishwakarma.gov.in/Login) for further details.
