POLICE STATION PAHARGAON BUST HONEY TRAP AND EXTORTION CASE

Port Blair, 18 September:

The Police Station Pahargaon have successfully investigated a honey trap and
extortion case involving a local resident. The victim was lured by a woman named
Renuka Rathnam R/o Dairy Farm, who introduced herself as Barbie to the complainant,
along with her accomplices Farida Begam R/o Dollygunj and Rinku Das R/o
Garacharma extorted cash and valuables by placing him in a compromising position.
On 14th September 2024, the suspects took photos of the complainant and
demanded Rs. 2 lakh, seizing his gold chain and Rs. 3,000 in cash. The next day, the
group demanded Rs. 1.2 lakh, which was later reduced to Rs. 40,000 during
negotiations. After verifying the demand, the police laid a trap at Grillax Hotel, Bathu
Basti, using pre-identified currency treated with phenolphthalein powder. A successful
raid resulted in the recovery of the tainted money from Renuka and the victim's gold
chain from Fareeda. The handwash test confirmed their involvement.
The operation was led by Inspector Mohd Elias, Station House Officer of PS
Pahargaon along with SIs Jeevan, Jyoti, Manish Narayan, HC Limbu, PCs Vinita Baxla,
Rahul Kr. Maurya & Janaki under the supervision of Shri Vikas Swami, IPS, SDPO
South Andaman and overall guidance of Smti Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of
Police, South Andaman District.
General public is hereby requested to be cautious of such fraudulent acts and
anyone having information related to similar activities is encouraged to come forward
and share information pertaining to any crime or other illegal activities to Police at 100,
