On 15 th August 2024, in a distinguished ceremony held during the ‘At Home’ event at
Raj Niwas on the occasion of Independence Day Celebrations-2024, the Hon’ble Lieutenant
Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM,
VSM (Retd.), alongside Chief Secretary Shri Keshav Chandra and Director General of Police
Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, unveiled the Coffee Table Book of the Andaman and Nicobar
Police titled “Guardians of the Islands: A Saga That Transcends the Sands of Time.”
This beautifully crafted publication offers a comprehensive exploration of the rich
history, legacy, and modernization of the Andaman and Nicobar Police Force. It chronicles
the remarkable transformation of the A&N Police from its origins as a British military police
establishment into a modern, citizen-centric organization, capturing the essence of its journey
from the colonial era to today’s progressive policing.
“Guardians of the Islands” sheds light on the significant contributions of various
specialized units too, of the A&N Police. The book highlights the vital roles played by the
Indian Reserve Battalion, the Police Marine Force, and the Armed Police Unit in ensuring the
safety and security of the islands. It also delves into the advancements in communication
systems through the Police Radio and the critical work of the Criminal Investigation
Department (CID).
Additionally, the book provides insights into the dedicated efforts of the three police
districts, all working in harmony to uphold community well-being and security. Through vivid
imagery and engaging narratives, “Guardians of the Islands” not only celebrates the A&N
