Report: John Wilbert
Port Blair, 08 August 2024:
R. Karunanithi, Vice President of Our Right Organisation, has recently addressed a letter to the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL), part of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, regarding the deteriorating road conditions between Prothrapur Junction and Bathubasti in Port Blair, Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The letter highlights several critical issues affecting the road:
- Potholes and Cracks: The road surface is heavily damaged with numerous potholes and cracks, creating hazardous conditions for vehicles and increasing the risk of accidents.
- Uneven Surface: The lack of proper maintenance has resulted in an uneven road surface, which poses risks to both two-wheelers and four-wheelers, compromising commuter safety.
In response to these concerns, Karunanithi urges NHIDCL to take immediate corrective measures, including:
- Road Repair and Resurfacing: Conduct comprehensive repairs and resurfacing to address potholes, cracks, and uneven patches, ensuring the road meets safety standards.
- Regular Maintenance: Establish a regular maintenance schedule to prevent future deterioration. Regular inspections and timely repairs are crucial for maintaining road safety and quality.
Karunanithi has requested NHIDCL to prioritize these issues and act swiftly to improve the road conditions, emphasizing that the safety and convenience of commuters depend on prompt and effective action.
